August 4, 2009 ============== Edited notes to add filter information. Replaced TARGET in fits headers with correct target. Night of July 31 - August 1, 2009 ================================= After a week of rain a cool front cleared the area and we have a clear sky with stable seeing at sunset. The dome AC has been on, large fan running. Telescope is about 4 degrees F above ambient air ~75F at sunset. Telescope fans are on at 85%. Small dome fan is on and AC is running. Large fan is off for the observation period. Apogee U16M with IFW3 and CRGB 50 mm square filter set. Did not adjust focus from previous best adjustment. Targets ======= Epsilon Lyrae ------------- epslyr_3 to epslyr_15 point_16 to pointW_22 Demonstrate good seeing and pointing precision. For point_ series, slew to target using xmtel, then off target by using the xmtel manual control first to the north. From this ~2' offset, slew back to target using xmtel and take pointN_17.fits. Repeat to S, E, and W. 0.25 S exposures with C filter Dark frame epslyr_15.fits ~3 pixel FWHM or 1.2 seconds short exposure seeing in epslyr_13 and _14 M57 --- Camera had warmed up during a software recycle. Best images are at the end of the sequence: Target name in original files says eps lyrae. m57_dark_34 100 s dark m57_33 100 s blue m57_32 100 s green m57_31 100 s red m57_30 100 s clear m57_29 100 s blue m57_28 100 s blue m57_dark_27 100 s dark m57_26 100 s blue m57_25 100 s green m57_24 100 s red M27 --- Two images in each color and two clear. Total exposure time 800s. Should yield a good color composite. Original target names need to be changed to M27 from eps lyrae. m27_53.fits C 100s m27_54.fits R 100s m27_55.fits G 100s m27_56.fits B 100s m27_dark_57.fits dark 100s m27_58.fits B 100s m27_59.fits C 100s m27_60.fits R 100s slightly elongated tracking m27_61.fits R 100s m27_62.fits G 100s m27_dark_57.fits HD209458 -------- Original target name in header is eps lyrae and should be changed. hd209458_35.fits C 1s hd209458_36.fits dark 1s hd209458_37.fits C 2s hd209458_38.fits dark 2s hd209458_39.fits R 2s hd209458_40.fits G 2s hd209458_41.fits G 2s hd209458_42.fits G 1s hd209458_43.fits B 1s hd209458_44.fits B 1s hd209458_45.fits G 1s hd209458_46.fits C 1s hd209458_47.fits C 2s hd209458_dark_48.fits dark 2s hd209458_49.fits R 10s hd209458_50.fits G 10s hd209458_51.fits B 10s hd209458_dark_52.fits dark 10s Jupiter ======= Set exposure time to 0.25 seconds and repeated exposures with different filters.
